Experts Identify Kremlin Fear Operation Targeting Cruise Missile Deployment

Moscow is conducting a strategic manipulation campaign of warnings to deter the America from delivering long-range missiles to Ukrainian forces, according to conflict researchers. A senior Russian lawmaker declared: “We are familiar with these missiles completely, how they fly, how to shoot them down, we encountered them in the Syrian conflict, so this is not innovative. Those delivering them and the operators will face consequences … We will develop strategies to target those who cause us trouble.”

Ukraine's Military Push Progress

Ukraine's military were imposing substantial damage in a military operation in eastern Donetsk region, the central battlefield, the Ukrainian president stated on midweek. The Ukrainian president's account, based on a briefing from his senior military officer, contradicted Vladimir Putin's speech before high-ranking military personnel a previous day in which he said Russian troops possessed the military advantage in every combat zone.

Based on evaluation from the beginning of October, conflict monitors said Russia was suffering significant losses, mainly because of Ukrainian drone attacks, in return for limited tactical advances. Defending units, Ukraine's leader reported, were “defending ourselves along various sectors”, referring specifically to northeastern Kupiansk, a significantly ruined town in the northeastern front under sustained offensive operations for an extended period.

Area Conditions

Administrative officials in the Kherson area of Kherson said offensive operations on Wednesday killed three people in and around the urban center of the same name. The governor of the Sumy oblast, on the northern border with neighboring Russia, said three people died in unmanned aerial strikes in various areas. Kyiv's air command said it intercepted or jammed 154 out of 183 attack and decoy UAVs during the night.

An offensive strike seriously damaged one of Ukraine's thermal power plants, authorities said on midweek. Facility personnel were harmed during the strike, based on information from industry sources. Officials offered limited details, including the facility's position, but Ukrainian authorities said attacks targeted energy infrastructure in Ukraine's northern Chernihiv, southern Ukraine and eastern Ukraine.

Humanitarian Impact

In the north-eastern Sumy town of the Shostka area, significantly damaged by the Russian onslaught against the power supply, local government has established temporary shelters where civilians are able to seek warmth, drink hot tea, charge their phones and access mental health services, as reported by local official.

Diplomatic Measures

Ukraine's ambassador to Nato on Wednesday urged European partners to increase acquisitions of American military equipment for Ukraine. “The situation isn't that we prefer American weapons over allied or alternative military systems – the reality is that we are asking the US for equipment that EU members can't provide,” said Ukraine's NATO envoy.

Germany's national police will immediately gain permission to neutralize unmanned aerial vehicles, government official declared on Wednesday, after a spate of drone sightings considered likely Moscow's attempts to gather intelligence and deter. Presenting proposed legislation, the representative said security forces could legally “to take advanced technological measures against drone threats, such as EMP technology, jamming, GPS interference, but also with physical means”.

EU Defense Concerns

European leader said on Wednesday that the European Union should strengthen its security measures to counter Moscow's multifaceted attacks in response to airspace breaches, digital assaults and submarine infrastructure disruption. “This doesn't represent coincidental events. They constitute a systematic and intensifying operation,” the leader said in a presentation to the European parliament. “Several occurrences are coincidence, but three, five, ten – that represents a deliberate and targeted hybrid threat strategy against the European Union, and the EU needs to react.”

Refugee Status

The Swiss authorities has extended its refugee protection provided to displaced Ukrainians to at least 4 March 2027. Humanitarian status, which enables individuals to leave the country as well as work in Switzerland, is generally limited to twelve months but can be renewed. “The ruling reflects the continued dangerous conditions and ongoing military actions across extensive regions of the country,” said a official communication. “Notwithstanding worldwide negotiation attempts, a lasting stabilisation that would allow for protected homecoming is not anticipated in the coming years.”
