Blast Takes Three Law Enforcement Officers Amid Eviction Procedure in Italy

A trio of officers lost their lives and no fewer than 15 people sustained injuries in what appears to be deliberate detonation from gas at a rural property in the northern part of Italy.

Sequence of Events

The explosion was triggered as law enforcement and fire personnel approached the property near the city of Verona to carry out an eviction order for a brother and sister trio in their late 50s and mid-60s.

All three victims who died served in the Carabinieri military police.

Arrests and Aftermath

One male and one female got detained at the site and another man who escaped after the incident was located not long after. Each of them have been admitted to hospital.

The blast could be noticed some 5km (3 miles) away and photographs from the location revealed the property left as a mass of wreckage.

“This moment calls for sorrow,” commented Interior Minister the Interior Minister, who noted that efforts had been made to remove the brother and sister trio in the past.

“Everyone was aware the circumstances were severe,” neighbors told local news, mentioning that the family members had in the past stated to “detonate the property” rather than be evicted.
