Warning: spoilers ahead - This article reveals details from Celebrity Traitors conclusion
Over the course of the show, viewers witnessed eliminations, betrayals, serious side-eye, and a memorable moment that pierced the overwhelming tension.
However on the final evening, the ultimate victor of the inaugural celebrity edition emerged triumphant.
Out of nineteen participants, only five were left standing: Traitors and loyal players facing off for the prize.
Soon, the competition tightened to only three contenders: the remaining contestants.
Ultimately, funny man Alan Carr was crowned the champion, in a shocking result that went viral and made him tearful.
"This has been destroying me, my apologies," he declared, admitting to the remaining faithfuls that he was actually a traitor. "I'm an awful human being."
"You played amazingly," they consoled him. "It's all right."
Social media quickly erupted with this development. "Most awful traitor ever being the best traitor ever," commented a viewer.
"It couldn't have been a better conclusion," wrote a different person, while someone else called it "the TV moment of the year."
The organization he selected, a cancer charity, will receive the entire winnings, with the final pot reaching eighty-seven thousand five hundred pounds.
The comedian's evolution from giggle liability to cold-hearted killer was among the most memorable aspects of the season.
However, his victory still left the nation in shock, according to industry observers.
"The thought of him, among everyone, executing an expert performance in deceit felt about as likely as him maintaining composure through one of his own punchlines."
During follow-up conversations, fellow players explained why no one had ever really suspected him.
"Alan could have come down to the morning meal in traitor attire and I wouldn't have believed he was deceiving us. His humor distracted me," a player said.
"The majority didn't target him because how can you vote for a person so charming?" asked another celebrity.
The winner stated he had "absolutely loved" his time on the program.
"I'd like to do it again... I don't think it would be successful a second time!"
The final installment was extended to 70 minutes on television. There was an unusual opening than usual, as all the celebs were aware who'd make it at the breakfast table.
There was some very uplifting, and very un-Traitors-esque soundtrack, as the episode revisited key scenes from each of the finalists' experience in the game.
As ever, the comedian gave us unforgettable quotes.
"To be honest, I started the competition a bit of a nervous wreck. I've betrayed close allies under the bus, I've murdered national treasures in plain sight. Apparently I'm a better liar and player than I believed."
At the same time, another contestant noted that being in the final was "way more stressful than competing with a national team", while another said he was "completely amazed" to have made it so far.
Early on in the episode, various contestants seemed to be making a bid to become the new style icon of the competition, taking over from an earlier departed style leader.
The winner appeared at breakfast resembling a 1950s US chat show host in patterned burgundy attire, before changing into a bejewelled white suit.
However, he got out-jacketted by another contestant's maroon velvet tuxedo. Impressive style.
Following this was the competition, with the remaining contestants boarding a train named - naturally - The Traitors Express.
The challenge involved destroying portraits of former contestants. Have sympathy for one participant who managed to get hit on the head THREE times by the cover of a substantial container.
Before long, the moment arrived for the elimination discussion.
Two traitors did a pinky promise beforehand, pledging to stick together. "We've come a long way, I won't betray him," said a player, while their partner just giggled.
And one did stick to his promise. But, having slipped unnoticed for most of the game, their partner still received the majority elimination votes.
The remaining traitor appeared to be experiencing significant distress to be the last traitor standing. "Now I'm on my own, I'm frightened," he said. "I'm a loose cannon, a rudderless ship."
Online platforms and onlookers were equally disappointed.
"I hoped against this contestant to be banished. A truly loveable traitor," commented an observer.
"Your legacy will remain in Traitors history," wrote another user.
But there was no time to dwell on this departure. Soon, the game reached the endgame - this being what we were really all here for.
The last players stood over the fire pit. Meanwhile, the partnership broke down, just when it mattered the most, in an absolutely shocking development.
A player was painfully banished - after a shock vote from their ally, who turned against them.
"It hurts to be stabbed in the back last minute like that," remarked the eliminated player. Subsequently, we learned that when they message, the eliminated contestant refers to the other by a betrayer's name.
Ultimately, only three contestants remained in the game: the last participants.
A contestant, looking incredibly smug, chose to conclude the competition. So did another, and it all came down to the final participant, who did the same - which meant that the deceiver emerged victorious.
According to commentators, the moment where the other players comforted the champion was "beautiful TV". "I predict it will be a contender for memorable moment at television honors," they said.
Fortunately, the champion soon recovered from his emotional outburst, and could finally appreciate the moment.
"What a rollercoaster. I was awful at lying, my expressions gave me away and here I am the champion," he said.
He also made light of the memorable elimination - his best friend in an early episode - by leaning toward the presenter in the concluding moments and making contact.
"There's something on your face," he said, with his characteristic laugh.
The recent episodes of celebrity gossiping, plotting and the occasional unexpected moments may seem like one big crazy jumbled dream. Yet it actually all happen. And we will miss it.
